What is the average cost of wedding flowers?

I’m sure you have been planning away and now it's time to contact your florist! You may have chosen a date, a venue and even started looking for your dress. All these amazing things you get to plan for your special day with the love of your life. But we sometimes don't realize the costs incurred with each item on our checklist. It's not always easy hearing that your dream florals are yet another cost you may have been undermining.

Take it from me, your DIY queen who did everything herself when planning a wedding. I was shocked to hear that one stem was retailing at $5-9 dollars, some upwards of $18/stem for these beautiful garden roses I had wanted. Since becoming a florist I can now understand completely why those roses were priced that way. Every florist's costs will be different and it’s circumstantial depending on overhead and experience. Us Canadians have a short window for seasonal blooms so it's important we have access to wholesalers that bring in products from places such as Holland, California, South America, Africa, Italy and more. Other costs incurred are rental fees, tools, flower food cleaning products, buckets. They are also paid for their time. Floral design is a form of artistry and takes a lot of time and knowledge to make beautiful arrangements.

Depending on the size of your wedding, the typical bride and groom will pay around $2,000 when including your bridal party and family, your ceremony arch pieces, guest table and your center pieces at the reception. Because each wedding is unique, a custom quote is designed based on seasonal availability.

Do you charge delivery and set up?

Adventure Floral charges $0.61/km to anywhere outside of city limits. These are the Alberta standards for 2023. Any deliveries within Calgary city limits is a $50.

Should you require set up, there will be a $35/hour per designer required on site. We typically see bride's and groom's making arrangements with their wedding planner or photographer to provide P/U service, this is a great way to cut costs.

Do you provide fake flower arrangements?

Fresh flowers always have a way to our heart and provide such natural beauty on your special day. There are companies locally in Calgary that preserve your bouquet when your wedding has come and gone. We highly recommend this, as you will not be disappointed in their work.

When should I book my wedding florist?

We recommend booking at least 6-9 months prior to your event. Florists tend to have their weddings booked for the following summer 8 months prior. Depending on how busy the florist may be they will book more than one wedding per weekend so It is always best to source out a florist sooner than later. Searching hashtags in your area on Instagram or even Googling your local florists to scan through their portfolio will help you find the designer that will best suit your style.

Please don't let the 6-9 months deter you from reaching out! You never know what is available and we will always recommend other florists that can help you out if we are not available.

Can I visit your shop?

Does the Season affect the availability of flowers?

Depending on the season, your favourite flowers may be harder to come across. Make sure to let us know your flower requests early in your proposal process. Most of the time we can arrange for specific flowers to be ordered in, but this does come with a higher cost. I am always happy to provide another option to stay within your vision and budget.
